The Three Divisions

South Wales Fire Service is one of the three Welsh Brigades. It forms part of our emergency service network throughout Britain. This 'Web Site' is designed to provide an insight into part of your Fire Service.

To be efficient the Brigade runs three Divisions (South, East and West), each division is run by a Divisional Commander (SDO).

The Brigade covers an area of 1085 square miles, included in this area is the city of Cardiff in the south. Large towns such as Merthyr Tydfill, Newport, Pontypridd, Monmouth, and Barry account for large numbers of people. We also cover agricultural areas, business parks and valley communities. In total the Brigade area has a population of 1,404,202 (in 1996).
