Duffryn Fire Station
Staffing
Duffryn Fire Station is a wholetime station which is staffed 24 hours a day,
365 days a year.
The station has 28 personnel divided into four shifts or watches and a Station
Officer in overall charge.
Location
The station is situated in the western side of Newport covering approximately
28 square miles and forms part of the South division.
Within the station area there are:-
* large industrial areas including steel and chemical works
* Newport docks
* M4 Motorway
* Tredegar house (historic building housing works of art).
Calls
As well as attending calls in their own area, the station also provides back
up cover to all the surrounding stations.
Due to the heavy industrial areas the station covers (chemical and steel works),
a special vehicle is stationed at Duffryn (Foam Tender), which is equipped with
large quantities of foam for fighting fires involving chemicals.
On average this station receives a total of 1100 calls per year.
Community
The station is involved in 'Community Fire Safety' and dedicated to preventing
accidents, deaths, injuries and damage from fire; working closely with the community
has always been a priority.
