Ely Fire Station

Staffing
Ely Fire Station is a wholetime station which is staffed 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
The station has 40 personnel divided into four shifts or watches and a Station Commander in overall charge.

Location
The station is situated in the western part of Cardiff and forms part of The South Division.
This is a mainly residential area with a number of large hospitals and the famous 'History of Welsh Life Museum' at St Fagans.
There is also a large number of light industrial units in the area, which is supported by a network of dual carriageways and the M4 Motorway.

Calls
As well as attending calls within the area, the station also provides back up cover to all the surrounding stations.
On average the station receives a total of 2200 calls per year.

Community
Firefighters continually strive to build a close relationships with the community they serve, and as such are proactive with 'Community Fire Safety'.
The aim is to reduce the number of deaths, serious injuries and preventable fires.
The crews at the station are committed to visiting schools, promoting home fire safety to pupils in years 2 and 6. By adopting this method, it is hoped that the message of 'Fire Safety in the Home' is passed to most children before they leave junior school.
