The South Division primarily covers the unitary authorities of The City and County of Cardiff, part of The Vale of Glamorgan and the County Borough of Newport.
The Division has a total of 8 Fire Stations, each working a wholetime shift system.

The South Division covers an area of over 127 square miles, with a population of 443,000 and responds, on average, to over 16,000 calls per year.

Within the area of the Division can be found:-
Cardiff
Busy City centre, docks including the oil terminal, heliport and other heavy and light industries.
Newport
Industrial area of the town, includes chemical works, large electronic component factories, docks and other heavy and light industries.
A dense population base and the M4 corridor add to the number of industries already mentioned and gives the South Division the potential of responding to all manner of incidents.

The South Division is pro-active in 'Community Fire Safety' with all Stations involved in school liaison and other initiatives such as smoke alarm awareness, as well as attending a variety of public events.
